“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved.“
Romans 10:1
As believers, we understand the importance of evangelism and missions, that all people need the saving message of the gospel. We can show the love of God in our words and actions to help draw those that we have contact with. As a Torah observant community our attention is often drawn to the Jewish people, through whom we received the scriptures, of whom our Lord Himself was a descendant, and to whom the promises remain regarding their restoration. However, few have the opportunity to minister directly to the Jewish people. Therefore, a portion of our offerings have gone to support the Dugit ministry for many years.
“For over 30 years, we have been sharing the Good News of Messiah in Israel. In Hebrew “Dugit” means small fishing boat. We believe God has called us to be fishers of men in our city, nation, and the world.“
Dugit is led by Messianic Jewish people located within the bustling, cosmopolitan city of Tel Aviv, the center of commerce for the nation, which contains the international airport that receives nearly all visitors to the nation of Israel. Though populated mostly by Jews, it is also the most secular city within Israel.
Here are some details from the Dugit website:
- The population of Tel Aviv-Yafo and Gush Dan areas is over 4.1 Million
- 30% of the population is under 30 years old
- 91% of the population is Jewish
- 0.02% of the population in all of Israel are believers in Yeshua
Dugit’s outreach is accomplished through personal connections, organized events, their coffee shop/outreach center that is staffed by evangelists, and a distribution center that serves the poor. They lead a Hebrew-speaking Messianic congregation and offer discipleship for those that have found Yeshua. There is also a prayer room where staff and visitors pray for the Holy Spirit to move on the Jewish and Arab population and turn their hearts to God through Yeshua.
